It’s that time of year when parents are preparing to take their children on their much-anticipated summer holidays, and looking stylish is all part of the process.

The best summer travel wear for kids is not only comfortable and functional but also has the added bonus of looking suave too.

With a dizzying array of travel wear to choose from, we’ve done the hard work for you and curated our very best and most stylish pieces.

From high-end multi-purpose suitcases to quality durable clothing, we’ve rounded up the best collection of children’s summer travel wear, which they will want to use all year around.

Warning. Your child will upstage you in the style stakes. But will look extra cute for all the holiday pics…

If your child quite fancies the idea of packing their own case (and let’s face it, yours is a little short on room) then you might want to add a Trunki into the equation.

The new British Airways Amelie the Elephant Trunki has a whopping 18-litre space to fit all their essentials in and in the signature style of Trunki, little ones can ride on it when they’re feeling a bit tired (we wish they made one for adults too).

It also has a very special message for all little travellers.

The naming of the Trunki started as a competition between British Airways colleagues. With over 600 entries, the name Amelia had the most nominations. Not only is Amelia the number one girl’s name in the UK, but reflects a spot of aviation history, naming the British Airways Aeroplane Trunki after Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly across the Atlantic in 1928 and again solo in 1932.

When you’re flying, the most seasoned jet setter will tell you comfort is key. Layers are always a good option in case it gets colder on the plane but are adaptable to take off when you touch down somewhere hot.

Linen is the perfect material for absorbing moisture and keeping cool. We think this boys’ shorts and blazer set from Next is dapper and will keep them looking and feeling just right for the flight. It starts at sizes three months to nine years and even comes with functional pockets and a complimentary white t-shirt.

For girls, Next also do some chic linen dresses. We love this embroidered pink piece or for an eye-catching print, just add butterflies.

Why stop at the Trunki when they can bring their own beach bag too?

The Cheeky Baby Tees personalised beach bag will ensure they will stand out in the sand.

They have a grab handle and rope drawstring closure which is worn over the shoulders like a rucksack, and can easily fit a small towel and swimwear in. With its eye-catching stripes and personalised initials, it also comes in pink, navy or grey- so there will be no squabbling about who belongs to who.

Sun can really affect children. On the mild end, it can be a slight glare in their eyes but on the opposite end of the spectrum, it can cause heatstroke if exposed to it for a long period of time.

A protective pair of sunglasses is just what they need, and will look pretty stylish too.

Izipizi does a wide range of colours and styles, and offers 100% UV protection as well as complies with international standards for sunglasses (just look out for ISO 12312-1 when purchasing sunglasses).

You can even purchase adult Izipizi’s for the ultimate matchy-matchy look.

Breathable is the word of the day on holiday, particularly when exploring and discovering new places. Keeping cool and keeping feet refreshed is essential, so it makes sense to buy a soft shoe that works for your little one.

These blue or creme ones from H and M, are not only made from a soft canvas but also work well for day or night wear.

One happy reviewer said, ‘I wouldn’t buy these from anywhere else…I have had them every year, in every size for my little boy. They are comfy and don’t rub his feet.’ Result.

There’s nothing worse than a closed-toe shoe full of sand that seems to keep scratching your sole for days on end.

For beach days out, kids need something secure and protective for walking and playing on the sand. We think these jelly sandals from Kidly fit the bill perfectly and have lots of breathing room for those hot sweltering days.

They also have the added function of being able to be worn in the sea and are made of BPA-free PVC with an adjustable velcro strap and removable cushion insole.

One fan says, ‘They’re so light and flexible. The insoles are such a great idea, they’re easy to remove but also add that extra bit of comfort.’

Happy feet equals happy child!

Holiday essentials should always include good swimwear. You don’t want to spend your whole time slathering your little one in Factor 50 when you can get a great swimsuit that helps protect them from the sun.

These all-in-one protective swimsuits which are suitable for boys and girls are no exception.

With a high neck and long sleeves, the signature swimsuit comes in an array of colours and prints.

O.K, we know picking one-holiday outfit would simply be impossible, as there are a plethora of cute options for children right now. But we did narrow it down slightly to a select few.

For the most purse-pleasing and high selection of variety, it had to be Matalan.

If you like matching sets then you’ll want to give this boy’s tie die set or girl’s gingham top and shorts a try, which are loose-fitting to keep them extra cool on those hot summer nights.

If you love a bargain, then Matalan has an abundance of multi-packs including girl’s and boy’s shorts, coloured t-shirts, casual jersey dresses, and polo shirts.

For bright white beach wear, then the Schiffley frill dress is completely twirl-worthy and for smart boys, the Brooklyn set works well.

We love that Matalan has a summer shop so you can find a unique stunning summer outfit for all the little ones in your life.
